Covid-19 Policies

for in-person, on-site lessons

Please note that these policies are subject to change as the City of Toronto directs.

Our physical location at 5193A Yonge Street will be opening on Tuesday, September 7th, and we will be following all safety precautions including social distancing and masks to ensure the safety of everyone in the building.

Proof of Complete Vaccination

As of November 1, 2021, proof of double vaccination for Covid-19 will be required for:

  • All in-person students ages 12 and older

  • Parents and caregivers who accompany students into the teaching studio

    • Proof of vaccination is not required for students under the age of 12 or for parents/caregivers to be present in our waiting room

PLEASE NOTE: You are considered fully vaccinated 14 days AFTER your second dose.

As of November 1, 2021, all students and parents will be required to present to their teacher before entereing the studio for their lessons or classes:


PLEASE NOTE: All parents and caregivers will also be required to present government-issed ID with your name and date of birth matching those on your proof-of-vaccination document.

If you will not be getting vaccinated for any reason, please contact WSM admin staff at prior to registering.

Our addition precautions include, but are not limited to the following:

Screening to Enter Our School:

Everyone is expected to self-screen for COVID-19 prior to entering the building by asking the following questions:

  1. Are you experiencing any of the following new or worsening symptoms:

    1. Fever and/or chills (37.8oC/100oF or higher)

    2. Cough or barking cough (croup)

    3. Shortness of breath (out of breath, unable to breathe deeply)

    4. Sore throat

    5. Difficulty swallowing

    6. Runny or stuffy/congested nose

    7. Decrease or loss of taste or smell

    8. Pink eye/conjunctivitis

    9. Headache

    10. Digestive issues (nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, etc.)

    11. Muscle aches/joint pain

    12. Extreme tiredness

    13. Falling down often (for older people)

  2. Have you or someone you have been in close contact with had a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days?

  3. Have you or someone you have been in close contact with traveled outside of Canada in the last 14 days?

If you answer YES yo any of the above questions, please follow provincial health guidelines and do NOT attend any in-person lessons at Willowdale School of Music.

Anyone who attends in-person lessons or enters our buildings while exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms will be sent home. If you have to miss a lesson due to quarantine, symptoms or exposure, please notify your teacher directly. If you notify your teacher with at least 2 hours notice you have the option to switch to online lessons until you are able to return to in-person lessons.

Our sanitizing procedures:

  • Doorknobs, piano keys and other surfaces will be wiped down regularly

  • Hand sanitizer will be readily available

  • Air purifiers are in every room and will regularly filter air during the day. We will keep the system clean and up-to-date for the safety of all staff, students and visitors.

In-Person Procedures (General):

  • Every person entering our buildings must wear a face mask or face mask + face shield (children under 2 are exempt)

  • Everyone will continue to observe social distancing (minimum 6 feet apart)

  • All studios have an acrylic sneeze screen.

  • All studios have air purifiers

  • All studio surfaces will be sanitized between each lesson

Our waiting area:

  • Food is not permitted in the waiting area

  • Our waiting area will not have the usual books and colouring area to reduce spreading germs.

  • Family members of students who are not attending a lesson (ie siblings, etc) are discouraged form accompanying students to lessons

  • Parents of young children may accompany their child to their lesson to assist

Our private lessons:

  • Private lessons will observe social distancing with 6 feet between teacher and student

  • Masks are required for teachers and students

  • Piano keys and door handles will be sanitized between each lesson

Our group classes:

  • Group class capacity will be reduced to 4 students/class.

  • Students must remain in their designated spot in the room to ensure 6 feet of distance (places will be marked on the floor)
