Toronto based musician Jahred R. Warkentin explores music in a wide variety of disciplines. As a guitarist, he is constantly searching for new and exciting works for himself and his students. As a composer, he incessantly explores new sounds, stories, and ideas to write his music. And as an academic he considers the ways in which experiences in our non-musical life impact our musical understandings and practice. Jahred has performed guitar in a wide variety of genres - solo and with many ensembles, including guitar orchestras, musicals, churches, and solo private events. His compositional works have been premiered across Canada by professional ensembles including Quatour Bozzini. Jahred completed a Bachelor of Music in composition from the University of Toronto, studying with James Rolfe and Christos Hatzis while also studying guitar with Rob Macdonald. Jahred is currently pursuing his Master’s degree in Ethnomusicology at UofT where he explores the effects of intergenerational trauma on traditional Cambodian music after the Khmer Rouge genocide. As a teacher, Jahred continually fosters joy and excitement in all areas of the musical experience; from practice to performance and studying to listening there is joy to be found in all!
